Our mission at Base is to change your relationship with your money. We’re all about exploring fun and creative ways to save your money. This post offers a quick low-down on getting started with IFTTT.

There are two kinds of people in the world: one who save money, and the other who are trying to save money. Those who fall in the first category are thoughtful about their spending habits, plan their finances, buy insurance and have financial goals. As for the rest of us, the ones who fall in the second category of trying to save money, we’re sorta doing all of those things.

It’s not that we don’t realise the need to plan our finances. We do. It just calls for enormous self-discipline and requires us to be constantly vigilant and engage with our finances. That’s a lot of work, not to mention the stress it adds. It sure is easy to just say it. It’s a whole different thing to do it though.

We too have always wondered if there was a better way to save some money without all the ‘meh’ that comes with it.

Enter IFTTT

What’s that?

IFTTT (pronounced like ‘gift’) uses one action or behavior to trigger another. The name stands for If This, Then That and means that each time one action happens, another will follow.

There are more 600 hundred IFTTT channels that can trigger savings — we’re the first financial service in India to have a channel. IFTTT allows you to “put the internet to work” and it’s pretty cool.

Here’s How to Make Base Work with IFTTT:

You can use an applet to turn on a savings rule like -

If (something happens), then save Rs.(some money)

The something could be:

If I go to the gym or If it rains or If I post something on Instagram

There are literally hundreds of things you could use to create savings rules.

Once you’ve connected some applets, we’ll add up your triggers and email you a transfer link to move your money to the savings account.

If you don’t already have a IFTTT account, set one up and then you’ll be able to explore the channels and decide which recipes to use to save.

Some ideas to get you started

If you are a social kind of person, then check out our integrations with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. And if you are the sort of person who is crushing it online and in real life, check out our integration with Strava or Fitbit.

If you dig productivity apps, you may find our Todoist and if the geek is strong in you, you may find it rewarding to use our Github integration.

And if none of these appeal to you, go ahead and create your own applets using our services. We can’t wait to see what you’ll make.
