A week ago we launched Base in private beta. Since then some of you have tried out our new offering but probably most of you have not. We wanted to take a moment to clearly explain what Base is about, and why we think you will find it valuable. This is Base:
- Base is about making your finances suck a little less. Things related to finances are often thought of as a drudgery. Our mission is to make you feel more comfortable talking about, managing, and doing stuff with your money. Think of it as a place where you can find small tools and knick-knacks that will help you go after the big things in life.
- Learning about your finances can be fun. Most technology platforms, especially the new apps and websites talk about how they will make you think less about your money. We instead think that learning and engaging with your personal finances, if done properly, can actually be fun and cool. With our product, we want to make it less annoying and frustrating for you to engage with your finances.
- Managing finances can be creative. Too often we find the conversations about money are drowning with technical jargon and unnecessary obfuscation. We instead think that it is valuable and powerful to creatively think and express your ideas for money management.
And finally
- Base is for everyone. It doesn’t matter how much you really make, whether you are barely pulling it through pay-date to pay-date or making plenty, we want to help you own your finances, and not the other way around.
The ideas listed above may seen quite abstract and may mean a lot of things to a lot of people. But we hope these will set the direction for how Base will grow and evolve.
